Dear Old Navy,

I realize that the weather is getting warmer, but you should know by now that plenty of women wear jeans year-round, what with air-conditioning, low self-esteem in shorts and other very good reasons and excuses. Why on earth would you have 3 walls of men's jeans and cargo pants and get rid of almost your entire stock of women's jeans and not expect more in for over another month??? With only about 2 racks or so of women's jeans left, mostly for skinny girls with no curves how am I supposed to find something that fits?????

Oh wait...I wear what size now? :) Nevermind!

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful and amazing moms out there (you're all wonderful and amazing, part of the "Mom" definition), especially those I know and are on my friend's list! I still don't know how you do it and I'm in awe of you all!

We're happily in NJ to celebrate with our Mom's, Aunt's and Grandmother's this weekend - it's nice to be here for this weekend, and we know it makes them all happy even if they do also get a bit weepy :)

So I'm awaiting to hear that my third target received her socks - this may take a while since they were headed to Vancouver, but that's alright - at least she's been in touch and I know that she knows where socks in progress are that are coming to her and to me - no worries. Above me however seems to be a nightmare - and I go in between hoping to just get at least a pair of socks out of this and hoping that I last longer in the whole tournament. I don't know if my current assassin has yarn/socks in progress for me, and there does not appear to be any socks in progress for her above her that people can locate. The other thing is that is doesn't appear as if anyone who could be killing her is trying hard to actively stay in the fight and take her out - which is sad, we're so close to only having 15% of the people left, I'd really hope that people were staying involved and with the spirit of the game.

At least I've learned socks and enjoy making them :) I may make my own Socks Of Doom (TM) when this is over even - I have the perfect yarn for it. I'm planning on making mini SOD with left over yarn from my kills and sending them to the original assassin who bought the yarn as a keychain :)

And, I can always think ahead to Sock Madness - I think it would be a lot of fun to get involved in, and a great way/incnetive to work on learning new skills too...*gulp* fair isle and intarsia...

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

The Northeast
Philadelphia
The Midland
The South
Boston
The West
North Central

It actually looks like my top three are all pretty close, so why it went to the side of Inland North (I can't be inland - I need a real beach nearby!) instead of Northeast is beyond me. Whatever - I talk like everyone I grew up with in NJ - so clearly this quiz maker hasn't been there :) And as far as I'm concerned - everything is a "coke" what flavor coke is then the question...

On the other hand I'm also amused that Boston and Philly are evidently distinct enough to be their own geographic areas of the US equivalent with southern, northeast and west :)

Update - finished off the socks from my next target pretty quickly and just mailed them to Noteventherain in Vancouver at lunchtime - hooray! I may have even caught her via email in time to have SiP's mailed straight to me and speed up the process, here's hoping.

That will make 3 notches on the needles - far longer than I expected to last! Let's hope my assassin is not moving too quickly on finishing off my socks and that she gets taken out soon enough!

Alright - clearly eBay didn't reach the right people...I'll see if those who read my LJ can at least do better :)

We recently got a new multi-function printer to replace my other one. It was a great Canon printer, but now we have a shiny-er Canon one :) In the meantime, since I had placed an order of a lot of cartridges from an ink supply place, I have a ton of ink cartridges left over for the previous printer, which used different ones from the new one. There are 19 total, I thought I'd sell them on eBay - but no one seems to have even looked at the page :( The cartridges are good for the following Canon inkjets: All Canon S800/S820/S820D/S900/S9000 series, All Canon BJ F860/870 series, Canon BJC-8200 and Canon i950. I've got 19 cartridges total: 3 Black cartridges, 1 Magenta cartridge, 3 Photo Magenta cartridges, 5 Cyan cartridges, 4 Photo Cyan cartridges and 3 Yellow cartridges. If there's someone who knows me who can use them let me know and we'll make an arrangement!

And to make this not all just a plea for a home for good ink, here's a fun meme:

Current Location: Work
Current Mood: busy
Current Music: relaxation playlist I have, Sting is on at the moment
Since now I have something to update!

The story so far: I took out my original target, Menguin71, and received lovely SiP from her along with some gorgeous stitch markers and wonderful chocolate and cheers for me to kill, kill, kill! Hopefully I can make something for her with the leftover yarn from those socks as a thanks :) Then I proceeded to finish about the last third of the sock she had started and made the mate to finish the pair and kill off Celtic Anya. Celtic Anya (I hope she's feeling better!) has had limited on-line time due to illness, but had started her socks and I just received those SiP yesterday along with a lovely ball of Rowan's Tapestry yarn as a gift (I'm thinking of making knitty.com's Fetching with them for myself...).

So now I knit to kill noteventherain. One sock is done (only the toe was left so I finished that off as soon as I got them yesterday) and the leg is well on its way today. Hopefully the pair (and treats!) will be in the mail by Thursday :) Assuming I stay alive of course...and assuming I get noteventherain's address - that was the one piece of info I haven't gotten via email or snail mail yet!

So to recap - 2 kills down, 1 full pair knit for the first and 1 sock and 1/3 of a sock knit for the second kill. If I make the third kill that will tack on another sock plus a toe. In prep for sock wars I finally had finished a traditional dpn cuff down sock I had started a while back for practice (I love how it came out - using Lorna's Laces shepperd sock - I have to start/finish the mate still!) and also made and finished a pair of toe-up socks made using magic loop method so I could learn that too (I love magic loop for anything small and circular/knit-in-the-round now). I think I may be done with socks for a while after this fall...

Current Location: Work
Wacky I know it - but I had to share, work is finally allowing us to live in the present and bring our cell phones that may have cameras on them into the building - hooray! I won't be separated now during the day from full contact with the outside world! Okay, maybe that's a little extreme, but still - I hated using my work phone if I had to make a personal call.

So now I will be a meme sheep since I'm posting twice in one day and haven't done a meme in a while, snatched from a few on my f-list:

- Pick your birth month.
- Strike out anything that doesn't apply to you.
- Bold the five-ten that best apply to you.
- Copy to your own journal, with all twelve months under a lj-cut

Some of this is funny, I think I'd be shot if I didn't strike out shy and humble...and I'll let [info]phantom_cheesy have some say later if he checks since I'm sure I'd like his opinions more than mine :)

FEBRUARY:
Abstract thoughts. Loves reality and abstract. Intelligent and clever. Changing personality. Attractive. Sexy. Temperamental. Quiet, shy and humble. Honest and loyal. Determined to reach goals. Loves freedom. Rebellious when restricted. Loves aggressiveness. Too sensitive and easily hurt. Gets angry really easily but does not show it. Dislikes unnecessary things. Loves making friends but rarely shows it. Daring and stubborn. Ambitious. Realizes dreams and hopes. Sharp. Loves entertainment and leisure. Romantic on the inside not outside. Superstitious and ludicrous. Spendthrift. Tries to learn to show emotions.

All of the months for your enjoyment )

Today my thoughts and prayers are with my family and friends and all others who lost loved ones due to the events 5 years ago today. I remember being in the unified office and wondering why people were roaming around trying to get the TVs on the news in the community area there when they told me the news and I was there and watched as the second plane hit the tower. From there I had to go to recitation with the students, and I just did not know what to do with this news. At some point MIT cancelled the remaining classes for the day, and I know myself and Mike and our closest friends Tree and Alex and Chris and Rachel all got together at our apartment to watch the news and stay together for dinner and try to reach people we knew were in NYC and DC and I tried to convince Tree and Alex to drive to CA starting right then so that they would make it in time for her brother's wedding (the airports did not open in time for them to get there for the wedding). It was sad and scary, and no - I will never forget.

Aug. 16th, 2006 @ 05:15 pm Can I go back to GenCon?
Current Location: Work

So is it time for GenCon again yet? The thing I'm finding out lately is that I always have so much I want to do at GenCon/JadeCon each year that I never get to do nearly all of what I hope to get done. I love seeing people and I enjoy the gaming and sights on the floor and getting dressed up and events...clearly I need this to be a much longer event!

Anyway - I had such a blast at JadeCon - I only wish Mike and I were feeling better the whole time we were there. It probably was due to a build up of lack of sleep and stressing we've both been suffering lately here at home from work. That's what sucked, especially since one of the few events we really wanted to take part in at GenCon, the D&D open championship, ended up overlapping auction night. I was torn that whole day, I had so much fun hanging out with my master, [info]rosiewook, and the other CJers decorating the room and organizing the auction, and then I missed most of the event while gaming (in full formal attire!) at the semi-finals. I really want to say thanks to all the CJers who were wishing us well, asking how we did, and helping me feel less guilty that it really was a cool thing to have advanced to the semi-finals even though we missed some of the dinner/auction. Time and time again I've learned how much all your friendships mean to me!

Okay - enough sappiness, I'm still at work and catching up from last week and my sick day Monday...must go home!

Nope, I'm not dead, sick, in a witness protection program, or otherwise incapacitated...I'm just in my usual crazy state of busy-ness that prevents me from checking in on the world.

When last I posted I was finishing my latin costume for a competition. Right about the same time I picked up a new project at work half-time (my other two projects are down to quarter-time each). What has happened since is that the competition came and went (we did great too!) and that project has become a occasional hell project - as in it is still very amorphous and hard to know if we're doing the right thing or even headed down a path for making progress. It's frustrating to say the least, and it also seems to consume every un-planned minute of my work day by dragging me into crazy long meetings and asking for lots of last minute travel. It's somewhat under control now, but only because I realize that the people in charge don't feel we're not doing enough since it's so ambiguous a task.

Yeah - so it's been lots of work and stress, lots of travel, lots of dancing, and lots of PartyLite lately - I so need an all-expenses paid luxury trip to Los Cabos next year, on PartyLite - hooray!

See a lot of you soon - at JadeCon/GenCon baby - can't wait!

Woohoo - the rhinestones came in for my latin costume today. I order them from The Rhinestone Guy and they're awesome. I got vitrail green and jet black AB for the pattern across the top and fading into the sleeve and skirt.

The fabrics are awesome and shiny - I love them, and my friend has made a great template of the top front and sleeve, so it should be happy cutting and assembling this weekend into Tuesday, and then stoning from there on!

Yeah - pictures over the weekend, I know [info]rosiewook will kill me if I don't!

The transformation begins (Okay - this isn't actually a GIP)

So excited - my friend Karen just returned from her short trip to NYC where she visited Spandex House for some of her own shopping and she picked up the fabric for my new Rhythm/Latin costume! I get to see it tomorrow and I can't wait. This way I can order the rhinestones so hopefully they'll arrive just as I finish the sewing and am ready for the stoning (um, yeah...I didn't realize just how suggestive making a ballroom costume could sound...)

Work has been kind of weird this week for me - I think I'll feel better when I have a better grasp on the new projects I'm starting on, instead of feeling like a floater for them right now.

PL has been great this week - I'm excited and I've got shows - I still want to do more because they're just so much fun, and the stuff I'm giving away is so cool just check out <a href="http://www.partylite.biz/stephaniechiesi>My Website</a> for the specials. I'll make you a deal if you want a show :) One of my PL consultant friends had a Creative Memories party last night, it was the first one I'd ever gone to, and it was so much fun. It really made scrapbooking a lot faster and easier than I thought I would take up. I got some basic supplies, we'll see if I find the time to use them, but the more I thought about it, the more I really do want to make a scrapbook of Grandma's side of the family - while she still at least can come up with names that go with faces. Hmmm...the costume is probably going to take me most of the time I have free in June to make, and I have a few yarn projects I want to finish before I start something new...this means I'm not sure I'm going to have time to make a new costume for GenCon :( I had a lot of fun with my pirate outfit last year - though I'm sure I could bring it again, it's not like pirates go out of fashion - argh!

Got our picnic table and finished the backyard setup (thank you much to Ruth and Opus for that) and had a ball with a small cookout yesterday, complete with smores made over the firepit at the center of the table - I love that table! It's perfect in the space and can condense nicely to fit our hammock too when we feel like hanging out back there and swinging, woohoo! I can't wait until the planting is fully done and the rest of the decor out there is set up, it truly will be a great hideaway in our own backyard. The 80th birthday party in LI that we went to was wonderful of course, we had a blast with [info]phantom_cheesy's family - I swear I haven't laughed that hard in ages - and we did it despite my sister-in-law's best efforts to make herself miserable and make sure everyone around knew she was miserable - you know, the people there love her, but she could try to actually engage in the talking and fun too, instead of hiding in a magazine on the couches right by everyone and not conversing at all.

In other fun news at least - we're going to be entering our first ballroom competition since we returned to lessons at the end of the month. It'll be in Manhattan Thurs-Sun Jun 29th - July 2 - though I think our competing is almost all on Friday, and maybe a little bit on Saturday right now. The competition website is here for anyone who might be able to and wants to come see us - we'd love people to come and watch and cheer us on and watch much better dancers compete too :) Now the unfortunate part of the competition is that we won't get to compete our best events. All of the smooth dances are on the Thursday of the competition and we can't get off from work to make it down for that day, so we'll only be dancing rhythm and maybe one standard dance. This means I really need to work hard on pumping out a rhythm costume though, as I don't really have one right now. Anyone want to help me? I've got lots of ideas, and I can do the stoning, but the sewing with lycra/spandex I'm not so much experienced at.

Sigh - so we'll see how this goes, this is mostly going to be a tester to see what we really want to focus on, what we need to work harder on, and what kind of schedule we'll need to keep after this comp and before the fall season - I think we're going to hope to do 3-4 comps a year if we can, or 2-3 bigger ones with more events in each. Expect the nervous posts to come soon as the comp gets closer!

Well, really the right shoe can change your whole outlook. I guess if I really was Cinderella, then the right shoe would have changed my life, but luckily it didn't take a good shoe to snag [info]phantom_cheesy.

[info]phantom_cheesy and other friends of ours laughed when I tried these shoes on while shopping in Freeport Maine on a trip up to LL Bean to get Mike's bike, but I love them. The color is just great and they're actually quite comfortable to wear. I've yet to wear them and not have at least 2 people compliment them during the day. And besides, when I can actually find a cute shoe in my frelling huge shoe size, I HAVE to get them :) Thank you Nine West, you wonderful brand that you are for making up to size 12 in women's shoes.

I'll put the picture behind the cut in case you don't care about my new shoes )

I had a feeling today was going to be a long and crazy day at work, but somehow it has not been bad. I got to start the day meeting 2 good friends at the gym for some lifting, got into work and made some actual progress on tasks, then I found out after our telecon that we don't need to stress over a visit from NASA this week because they forgot to mention before now that they can't come. Let's just hope our dance lesson tonight goes well too - we're hoping to confirm that we'll be ready to compete 4 dances in a competition coming up at the end of June.
